The phone is much smaller,
but slightly heavier than the original
N-Gage at 118x68x22 mm and 143 grams. Talktime is up to 3.5 hours
with 10 days standby. It can be used
as a games console for between 5-10
hours. This is quite a lot better than
the original N-Gage.
The N-Gage QD's screen is a 176x208 pixel
unit with enhanced contrast and backlighting.
Games can be hot-swapped into the Nokia
N-Gage QD, and the phone can now be used
much more like a conventional handset while
talking - which were two major problems
with the original N-Gage.
The control layout has been simplified
a little and made easier for gaming. Additionally,
the N-Gage QD comes in a more rounded design
making it much more elegant to look at.
The Nokia N-Gage QD is a dual-band GSM
device (there is a slightly different
model in the US). It supports
GPRS, and has an XHTML web browser,
email client, MMS and instant messaging.
Bluetooth support is included in
the N-Gage QD too. This can be used for
peer-to-peer gaming or for a range of
Nokia accessories or PC connectivity.
There are a large number of games to
play of the N-Gage QD, and the handset has
built-in 3D graphics acceleration to make
them fly!
Unlike the original N-Gage, there's no
MP3 playback support or FM radio, nor is
their a digital camera. Nokia have designed
the N-Gage QD to be optimised for playing
games, and have managed to make it more
compact as a result.
