Sony Ericsson Z1010
The Sony Ericsson Z1010 is the company's
first foray into the UK 3G market, scheduled
for launch in Q3 2004.
It comes with twin cameras, streaming
audio and video, MMS and a large TFT display
for maximum multimedia enjoyment.
The camera on the Sony Ericsson Z1010
has a VGA resolution of 640x480 with a 400%
digital zoom. Pictures can be saved of the
Sony Memory Stick Duo (TM) allowing easy
transfer to a memory card reader, or alternatively
they can be transferred using USB, infra-red
or Bluetooth.
Bluetooth support on the Sony Ericsson Z1010 is impressive,
dubbed "long range Bluetooth",
it will enable you to talk to the phone
at a range of up to 100 metres. Quite why
Sony Ericsson think this is useful is a
bit of a mystery, but we guess you can't
stand in the way of progress.
The Z1010 comes with a 16Mb memory stick,
upgradeable to 128Mb, which is useful for
storing photos and audio and video clips
on. Since the Sony Ericsson Z1010 plays
MP3s, we think that 128Mb should just about
squeeze in two CDs of high-quality MP3 audio.
Added to that, the Sony Ericsson Z1010
has PC-like file interface for easy management
of all your goodies, and the nice large
screen helps in this respect too. Application
support is via kJava, which means that there
promises to be some good games available,
which are easily controlled by the built-in
rocker key.
All-in-all, it looks like Sony Ericsson
have spent the time to get the Z1010 right
rather than rushing to be the first on the
market. We think this might be worth holding
out for if you're in the market for a 3G
phone.
