More compact and with a better battery
life that the NEC E313 that it replaces,
the NEC E228 is an entry-level 3G handset
that doesn't skimp on features.
Measuring 129x53x22mm and weighing 125
grams, the NEC E228 is substantially smaller
and lighter than first generation GSM phones,
with an improved talktime of over two hours
and up to 5.5 days standby.
The NEC E228 features a large 176x220
pixel display in 65,000 colours, twin cameras
with up to 640x480 pixels resolution, removable
memory with a Memory Stick Duo card, and
19Mb of inbuilt memory, all containted in
a stylish looking handset.
Unlike some other 3G phones, the NEC
E228 offers full video calling capabilities,
plus an XHTML 1.1 web browser, email support
via POP3 and IMAP4 plus SMS and MMS messaging.
Download speeds of up to 384kbps mean
that the NEC E228 is capable of playing
back high-speed streaming video and that
access to the web is always quick and easy.
When outside a 3G coverage area, the E228
will roam onto a GSM network, and it supports
GPRS data too.
The E228 has Java for games and other
applications, can play back MP3s and other
media, can be synchronised with a PC via
a USB cable and has polyphonic ringtones.
