Spam and Attempted Fraud

Due to the vast amount of fraudulent requests and spam we get, we've broken the messages down into different months. Enjoy.

Some clues as to the most common types of scam emai.

  • Pretty much anything from Africa, especially Nigeria, Uganda and Sierra Leon is fraudulent.
  • Many messages claiming to be from Singapore are, in fact, from Indonesia. Where Singapore is generally regarded as a safe place to do business, Indonesia appears to be riddled with fraud.
  • Look out for ridiculous names, chronic mis-spelling or a clear lack of understanding of the products.
  • If in doubt, check out the source IP of the mail message. SpamCop has a good page how to reveal all the information in your mail headers.. look for the earliest mentioned IP address and feed it into a lookup service like Whois.sc to get more information. This technique requires some practice, but will often reveal that the email from "London" or "New York" actually comes from Lagos.
