ShopForPhones Update
9th September 2003
AVAILABLE NOW
There's a whole load of new phones coming
in this month, including some interesting
additions to the Hutchison 3 service.
First up is the Motorola A830, available
on the Hutchison 3 network. A decent multimedia
phone which is free on some tarrifs. This
will soon be joined by its sibling the Motorola
A920 which is much more of a PDA-link phone
with a screen-based keypad. The Motorola
A920 is now available to pre-order.
The NEC E808, the larger of the first
two phones on the 3 service appears to be
going out of stock, to be replaced with
the slightly more attractive NEC E808Y.
This new handset isn't a flip phone, unlike
the E808, but we think this offers a better
layout.
Nokia's long-awaited 3300 MP3/phone hybrid
is finally out and well worth a look if
music is just as important as being in touch.
An unusual looking handset, that's for sure!
Sharp's new GX20 seems to be an unexpected
hit.. to the extent that no-one has any
stock, but a few have been spotted on eBay.
Yes.. it's another clamshell phone, but
we think the GX20 does it better than any
other. Find out what makes this phone special.
COMING SOON
The Motorola E390 is a phone for music
lovers with enhanced audio capabilities.
Available sometime towards the end of 2003.
Motorola's V500 and V600 are two attractive
clamshell phones available later this year.
The cheaper V500 is likely to be on Orange
only, with other networks taking the V600.
Panasonic's unusual looking G50 unit
is slated for release on O2 and Vodafone
in October. This is a very tiny phone, weighing
in at just 75 grams.
Scheduled to be launched sometime in
September on Orange Contract is the extremely
stylish Panasonic X70 clamshell phone. This
is likely to be the best phone available
on the Orange network when it's released,
so is worth holding out for.
The Nokia 6600 is a wide phone designed
for media playback. We think it's rather
sexy. Release date isn't certain, but should
be during Q4 2003.
Samsung's E700 is a very attractive clamshell
phone building on the strengths of other
great Samsung handsets. At the moment it
looks like an Orange-only handset, but watch
this space!
Also from Samsung is the very different
X400 clamshell aimed at gamers, with a colourful
case, game orientated controls and lots
of enhancements to make this a capable little
gaming platform. This should be out in September
2003 on O2 and Vodafone.
One of the most striking looking handsets
coming out is the Siemens SX1, a very radical
design similar to the Xelibri range, but
much more practical and with a colour screen.
This is due to be launched in September
and October across all major networks and
is without doubt one of the most interesting
handsets of 2003.
There's a host of upcoming phones from
Sony Ericsson, featuring two clamshells,
the Z200 and Z600, a low cost colour phone,
the T230 and most interesting of all is
the Z1010 3G phone marking Sony Ericsson's
debut into the 3G market. If you're looking
at a 3G handset, and you're prepared to
wait until January 2004, then the Z1010
looks to be better than anything currently
on the market.
